La Toubana Hotel & Spa ★★★★

A luxurious haven on an archipelago of paradise…

By Melanie Webb, VeryChic correspondent
Guadeloupe is not just an island in the Caribbean; it is actually an archipelago of islands shaped like an emerging and beautiful butterfly. It stretches both its wings in glory, one wing a natural, rainforest haven and the other a tranquil beach paradise. It is on the south side of the latter wing that we find La Toubana Hotel & Spa ****, on the beach front with its own private section of this white-sand and crystal-water paradise. A luxurious hotel with stunning surroundings… a match made in heaven!

  • A visit to Pointe-à-Pitre, visit the market places for a true experience of Guadeloupian culture; there’s a colourful open-air market running along La Darse, the inner harbour. There are souvenir stalls on the little streets right next to the market, as well. The Marché Couvert , another large public market, is just a few blocks to the west and has a good collection of handmade crafts and spices. Whilst you’re there you can stop by La Canne à Sucre, the most stylish restaurant on the Eastern wing of the Guadeloupe “butterfly” with a great view over the harbour and combines French and Creole cuisine. 1 Quai Foulon
  • In Pointe-à-Poitre, don’t miss the Cathédrale de St. Pierre et de St. Paul. This distinct cathedral is characterised by its sandy colour and the iron girders that hold it up ato protect it during hurricanes and earthquakes.
  • Visiting a natural space and appreciating Guadeloupe’s exotic flora and fauna on Guadeloupe’s western butterfly-wing in the Basse-terre, where you will find the national park which covers one-fifth of the whole of Guadeloupe’s terrain and contains Soufrière volcano.
