On our road trip through France, we finally meandered our way down south to the French Riviera. The place we had chosen however, was far from the usual crowds – the Hotel Cantermerle. In its private little world, the hotel really seems to epitomise all the things that we love about Provence: the scents of Mediterranean herbs and orange blossom on the breeze, gentle skies over an azure sea, an easy and kindly way of life, and a celebration of simple food, fine wine, and physical relaxation. It is a true Garden of Eden where everything is tranquil and green, and there’s nothing you need to do but enjoy the climate and joys of Provence.

  • A café which looks like an art gallery inside – you’ll find great coffee and snacks at Les Petits Tabliers where you can admire the striking wall murals as you sip your café au lait.

  • Chapelle Matisse. This chapel, a 10-minute walk from the town centre, was designed and decorated by Henri Matisse between 1947 and 1951. He considered it his masterpiece. It is all white inside, with the abundant colour coming from the stained glass windows. This is well worth a visit and the walk up the Avenue Henri Matisse is very pleasant.
