And so I flee to a land that boasts 300 days of sun a year, where an endless bay carpeted in soft sand awaits, and the wonder of the Argan oil can be discovered. I was staying in the infamously lavish Hyatt Place on the shimmering Taghazout Bay; that means 4.5 miles of uninterrupted soft sands and sea. I was going to spend some quality time with me, myself and the novel I have been meaning to read for months now!
Though not in the centre of Agadir, Hyatt Place is well placed in the calm outskirts next to an exceptional beach, what’s more is that you can appreciate the best of both worlds with the convenient and free shuttle that drops you off at the beach and at Agadir. When I arrived at the hotel, I did not regret my choice. Friendly multilingual staff greeted me at reception; a huge and spacious room that felt light and airy. My room overlooked the magnificent Atlantic Ocean, and felt like my own apartment with 50m² and a separate living room to the bedroom. The bedroom was fairly neutral in design yet the little details gave it a slight Moroccan flavour, as well as the large walk-in shower. Upon arriving, I decided that a nap on the king size bed was in order, and then, upon awaking I headed to the Gallery which serves food all 24 hours of the day and seven days a week. The menu had a wide range of local and regional specialities and of course the all time dinner classics.
Once the meal had ended I wasn’t sure quite what to do with myself, it was too early to return to the vast bed though the option was tempting, but I found myself in the Coffee to Cocktails bar talking to other guests, smoothly mixed cocktail in hand, whilst my new found friends held their whiskey and beer. The bar was dressed in regal golds and romantically lit, a golden yellow being the predominant colour that will now always remind me of Agadir.
Drowsily I wandered up to bed, there was no need to set my alarm or pack my bag for the next day, so I fell asleep with a smile on my face in pure bliss. The next morning I realised how bright the Gallery was, as the morning sun came flooding in through the large windows. The block coloured furniture gave the space a modern feel, and breakfast was filling and tasty. I decided to roam around the hotel and its vast expanse of grounds. There was a glittering pool that overlooked the Atlantic Ocean, a heated pool, gym, spa and of course the magnificence adjacent golf course. This great 18-hole course coaxed even an unseasoned golfer like me into attempting a hole in one or two with my new friends in tow. Perhaps I would grow to love golf after all!
That evening to relax my posture and my shoulders, I sunk into the hotel’s luscious spa. The first thing that stuck me was the elegant entrance, it looked like everything a spa entrance should look like complete with the strong yet tranquil aromas that filled the air. I started off in the sweltering hammam, eliminating the toxins from my body bit by bit. If the hammam couldn’t do the trick the sauna would, so I left the hammam to venture into the sizzling sauna. After I could take neither the heat of the hammam nor the sauna any longer, I plunged into the jacuzzi and let the bubbles massage my skin, on my shoulders, my back and my legs.
I did feel slightly guilty that I had kept this self-indulgent trip to myself… but that was just an excuse to come back very soon, hand in hand with my husband!
