Prague is the perfect place for a city break. Set against a backdrop of whimsical turrets and fairytale architecture, its personality runs rampant through the quirky streets. Here, history and culture are very much a part of the contemporary lifestyle, where underground bars sit beneath centuries-old squares and designer shops rub shoulders with gothic churches. It is this eclectic mix of old and new that makes Prague so fascinating, bringing together the luxurious design of a vibrant, contemporary city and the rich history that echoes around this part of Europe.
On the edge of the historical centre, at the crux of timeless Prague and the newer reaches of its borders, the Red & Blue Design Hotel sits in a fully reconstructed building from the 1900s. The exterior blends in perfectly with the surrounding landscape of Prague, impressive but solid with a touch of playfulness. Inside, the hotel boasts 52 spacious rooms, some of which revel in a red-themed design, whilst others feature blue décor. All rooms are equally as beautiful, though, with plush carpets, sleek and minimalist furniture, and huge bathrooms.
The slice of modern heaven was the perfect hideaway after a day spent exploring the city – Prague is an amazing city to discover by foot! At just ten minutes from the famous Charles Bridge, the Red & Blue Design Hotel put me in the centre of all the action. Everywhere I looked I was greeted by stunning architecture, grand museums, and a never-ending supply of designer cafes, trendy bars, and fusion restaurants. At night the city bursts into colour, where locals pour out onto the streets and mill around in squares, ducking and diving into pubs along the way. Whilst I enjoyed being swept up by this part of Prague, it was a relief to head back to the Red & Blue Design Hotel with its quiet surroundings and calm views over the park.
In the morning, the on-site café serves up a hearty breakfast against a stylish display of whitewashed walls and red touches. Once I had filled up on local pastries, fresh meats and cheeses, and fruit salads, it was ready to start over again. Though I was only there for a short time, I became a part of Prague during my stay, disappearing into its rabbit-warren of culture, history, and its endless charm. In the Old Town square I marvelled at the impressive Gothic architecture which loomed over weekend market stalls, then I wandered through the Jewish Quarter and up onto the hill to look out across the spired skyline of the city.
For a taste of the Prague of the future, I sampled craft beer in tiny pubs and tucked into delicious dishes in aromatic restaurants. Then, afterwards, I’d head back to the Red & Blue Design Hotel where I could flop down in bed and wait eagerly for it to start all over again. If you are looking for a fun-filled, cultural city break in Prague then the Red & Blue is the perfect base from which to begin your explorations.
