View all offersThe sweeping, rolling landscape of Provence has inspired artists for decades with its soft lines, subtle colours, and peaceful shapes. This verdant region is dotted with quaint, stone villages, sprawling fields of purple lavender and ancient abbeys. On the northern side of the rugged Luberon Massif lies Gordes, a characteristically charming example of those aforementioned quaint, stone villages. Nestled in a pocket of swirling green fields and dipping hills, could it really get any more charming than this?
Les Bories, a beautiful boutique hotel sits at the top of a lush, green hill in Gordes and looks out across the spectacular Provençal scenery below. It’s quite possibly the epitome of quaint, bursting with French charm. On the outside, the yellow-beige brickwork is reminiscent of a rustic cottage from days-gone-by and, set against the surrounding greenery, it is almost like stepping into a Van Gogh or Cézanne painting.
Inside, the charm continues with all-over white décor contrasting the wooden floors. Not only does this provide a light, bright, and airy atmosphere, but it also contributes to the dreamlike ambience of the hotel. To complete your relaxing experience, a well-equipped spa possesses an expansive range of relaxing treatments. Les Bories caters to the taste buds too, with a divine in-house Michelin-starred restaurant managed by Pascal Ginoux, who serves up a delectable range of dishes made with the freshest local ingredients. The ‘Tastes and aromas of Provence’ menu is a particular favourite of mine; if the rolling hills and lush greenery had a flavour it would be the dishes on this menu. Even the breakfasts are locally sourced, with crispy hunks of Provençal bread and homemade fruity jams.
Provence, and Gordes in particular, is absolutely picture perfect. It’s a sensational experience, what with the lavender scents, the warm Provençal breeze, the local flavours, the peace and quiet, and the soft landscape views. The perfect vantage point, Les Bories is your very own limestone castle on a hill.
