Throughout my life, I’ve always favoured beach holidays over mountain ones; I used to wonder how on earth the lofty peaks could complete with flawless sand and warm seas. But, as VeryChic rightfully showed me at the Les Roches Fleuries, I couldn’t have been more wrong! Based in an unbeatable location next to Mont Blanc, it’s time to treat yourself to a few days of relaxation, adventure and peace and quiet, leaving you feeling completely rejuvenated.
Our adventure started with a drive through the winding mountain roads, gazing out of the window as the postcard-perfect alpine scenes whizzed past until we arrived at our home for the next week. We were speechless for a few moments as we took in our surroundings… an authentic chalet facing the enchanting Mont Blanc. We walked past the piles of firewood and into the reception area, where we were warmly greeted by the staff who offered us a complimentary glass of champagne – this was the life!
Things just kept getting better, as we were shown to our stunning Superior Room. The wooden panelling on the walls downstairs was continued throughout the establishment, giving it a warm and characterful ambience. We had everything we needed; a large double bed, antique furniture, a beautifully furnished private balcony facing the mountains, free Wi-Fi, a TV and DVD player and a luxurious ensuite bathroom complete with toiletries, sumptuous robes and slippers.
We headed straight for the spa, an oasis of serenity and relaxation offering a hot tub, a steam room, whirlpool baths and a heated swimming pool, all renovated this year. We treated ourselves to customised massages, where the masseuses’ expert hands got rid of all stress. Our first day finished with a delicious meal at the restaurant, where we sampled contemporary French cuisine and Savoie specialties accompanied by fine wine, excellent service, a relaxed atmosphere and amazing views of the highest peak in Europe.
The rest of our trip was full of unforgettable moments; we’d spend each afternoon unwinding in the spa or wandering through medieval cobbled streets in traditional villages. If we ever start to doubt the charm of the mountains again, Les Roches Fleuries will be our first port of call!
