Hotel Garbi

The backdrop of the Costa Brava’s beautiful landscape is enough in itself to ensure a wonderful Spanish getaway; but when we combined the endless picturesque scenery with the comfort of the Hotel Garbí this year, our escapade truly reached new heights. Nestled in the small coastal town of Calella de Palafrugell, the hotel’s exceptional location in the heart of the region meant that beaches and picture-perfect villages were just a stone’s throw away.

As we turned into the hotel’s drive, a vast sea of pine trees stretched out before us, duly protecting us from the rays of the bright sun that shined high in the cerulean sky. As we approached and caught a glimpse of the hotel’s extensive surrounding gardens, a peaceful sense of quiet settled over us as we took in our tranquil retreat for the next week. Managed by the Serra family, the hotel itself prides itself on exuding a charming and family-orientated feel, enhanced by its openness to children – from the ping pong table to the indoor playroom, they’ve done everything to ensure a perfect family break. After an energising dip in the glistening outdoor pool, we headed to our Superior Double Room, which was light, airy and comfortable. As well as being fully equipped with modern conveniences such as air conditioning and a flat screen TV, we were lucky enough to have an indulgent hydromassage shower and a bubbling hot tub on the balcony, where we spent evenings soaking up the magnificent view across the glistening azure waves below.

With so much to do, it was hard to know where to start; but thanks to the hotel’s organised activities and excursions, we managed to explore much of the surrounding area through hikes and cycle rides, and even tried our hand at a few water sports. As the sun sank into the horizon each evening, we made our way to the Restaurant Sabor Garbí which spilled onto the outdoor terrace by virtue of the warm weather. As twinkling lights hung artistically from the trees and the starry night sky glittered invitingly above us, we devoured a range of Mediterranean and local delicacies, lovingly crafted from fresh ingredients from the ocean and mountains.

Over the years, we’ve discovered that our beloved Costa Brava, with its kaleidoscope of outdoor possibilities, is the gift that just keeps on giving – so for a break in prime position for discovering all that the region has to offer, the Hotel Garbí is an ideal choice.
