I, for one, used to think that I couldn’t handle bustling Berlin. For someone who liked to play their getaways on the tranquil side, there was too much going on, too much unpredictability. But that all changed when I finally gave in to my friend’s nagging about a city break in the German capital, and ended up at the prestigious Grand Hyatt Berlin *****. Tucked away in the very heart of the city, close to Potsdamer Platz, it was the perfect oasis of luxury to return to after our jam-packed days of sightseeing.
This brilliant establishment envelops you in faultless modern chic from the moment you step through the doors. Entering from a leafy side street, the lobby oozes with minimalism, dotted with tasteful furniture and bathed in abundant natural light shining in through the ceiling. After being greeted with a dazzling smile and a much-appreciated welcome drink, we could hardly wait to discover the rest of what lie ahead. Thanks to our VeryChic offer, we’d been upgraded to a View King Room: we both gasped as we clapped eyes on the sumptuous king size bed, the luxurious marble and cherry wood bathroom and wonderful views of the Marlene Dietrich Platz. What’s more, we were provided with bountiful top-quality amenities, including a rain shower, fluffy robes and a flat screen TV – my friend nearly had to drag me out of this haven!
The Club Olympus Spa boasted a sun terrace, massage and treatment facilities and a glittering swimming pool that I just couldn’t wait to dive into. And what’s more, come dinner time, the Grand Hyatt Berlin presented us with its brilliant choice of eateries, all of which we sampled over our time there. Our favourites were undoubtedly the Vox Restaurant, by virtue of its impressive show kitchen, and mesa restaurant for its traditional German cuisine to share.
As for the city itself, it was right on our doorstep; the likes of the Tiergarten Park and the Brandenburg Gate were just a stone’s throw away. We discovered it’s a fabulous city overflowing with great restaurants and bars, cultural sights and historical gems. So, can I handle Berlin now? Well, if I was going to be staying amidst the luxury Grand Hyatt *****, I could stay in the thriving German capital for years.
