Auberge des Templiers ★★★★★

A picture-perfect romantic setting in the lush Loire Valley

By Jo Weston, VeryChic correspondent
It’s easy to understand why the whole Loire Valley region is designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fertile valley only an hour and a half from Paris produces some of the world’s finest wines, and its strategic importance between northern and southern France means that princesses and nobles have flocked here for centuries to build castles, estates and luxurious country retreats. One such example is the beautiful 18th-century post-house, the Auberge des Templiers *****. Here, each aspect of gracious and civilised living should have its own award.

BY PLANE

  • Paris is served by three main airports: Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG), located 25 km (16 mi) to the northeast of Paris, Paris Orly (ORY), located 13 km (8.1 mi) south of Paris, and Paris Beauvais (BVA), around 85 km (53 mi) north of Paris (near the city of Beauvais).

Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly receive flights from most capitals and major cities across Europe. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines (notably Ryanair), operate flights to Paris Beauvais from many cities across Europe.
