Across the water from where you sit, the sun sets upon another day at the Shangri-La Hotel, Qaryat Al Beri, which rests comfortably behind the Sheikh Zayed Mosque. The back lighting of the sun's warm, orange glow creates a dark silhouette on the magnificent white marble domes and minarets that cut a shape into the skyline. Whilst the delights of the city are still close at hand, the hotel stands surrounded by lush gardens, and a private beach dotted with loungers and umbrellas, creating its own little oasis of escape. This is the stuff of which Arabian dreams are made.

  • Visiting Dalma. Located 26 miles off the coast, the island has over 6,000 years of history to unravel, with archaeological sites that date back to the Stone Age.
  • Going shopping in old, traditional markets, with the Iranian Souk, Al Aim Souk, and Al Meena Souk being amongst some of the best. Everything from pottery to fresh produce is available.
  • Taking a desert safari in a 4×4. A safari is a great way to experience the vast sandy dunes in a thrilling adventure. Many come with the options of camel rides and belly dancing displays, too!
  • Checking out the Qasr al-Hosn, which is the oldest stone building in the city. Abu Dhabi was built around this palace and fort in 1761 and it was an active government building until 1966.

    The airport is fairly well served internationally. There are a number of direct flights available from across Europe, and many more indirect routes with a transfer. The airport serves a a base for Etihad Airways.
