Where tradition and modernity coexist in perfect harmony

Istanbul offers so much more than meets the eye… like other cities, it features historical monuments and phenomenal cuisine alike, but there is something unique about this city which truly makes it ‘one-of-a-kind’. What I’m referring to is, of course, its culture. Privileged in location, Istanbul remains the only city to lie within 2 different continents: Europe and Asia. This interesting fact proves to be the reason for its exclusive culture owing to the unusual blend of two rather distinct continents. Within this beguiling city lies Occidental the Public **** - the answer to your perfect city break and veritable taste of Istanbul.

The Occidental The Public **** hotel is situated in Istanbul in Turkey. Just 1.5 kilometres from the hotel is the Istanbul Modern Art Museum and less than a kilometre away is the Taksim square.

By Plane

  • Istanbul currently has two airports: Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST), on the European side, is the city's main international airport, and Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), on the Asian side, is a newer international airport.

Ataturk Airport airport is located around 24 km (15 mi) west of the city centre and around 21 kilometres from the hotel, a journey which could take between 30 an 50 minutes depending on traffic. We recommend flying to this airport as it is a little closer to the hotel, and receives more direct flights from many more destinations in Europe, operated by a number of different airlines.

Sabiha Gökçen Airport, is located around 35 km (22 mi) southeast of the city centre, and around 48 kilometres from the hotel, a journey which could take between 40 minutes and 1 hour depending on traffic. It also receives a number of flights from cities across Europe, mostly operated by Turkish Airlines and Turkey's low cost Pegasus Airlines.

By Train

  • Istanbul is well connected by train, with trains to Istanbul departing from all major cities across Europe and Asia. Trains from Europe arrive at Sirkeci (note that InterRail tickets are valid in istanbul but only on the European side and not in the Asian region).

By Boat

  • It is also possible to make the trip to Istanbul by sea. Arrivals and departures by ferry and cruise ship etc. take place in the Port of Karaköy where there are many international connections. The Karaköy district itself is a major transport hub, commercial district and touristic area.
