Back in the late 19th to early 20th century during the reign of the Emperor Wilhelm II, a grandiose style emerged within Germany. In the arts, it was reflected in the distinctive, ornate architecture of the period with extravagant boulevards and government buildings. Known as Wilhelmine and resembling the neoclassical movement, one of these displays of aesthetic elegance was the Royal Bavarian Post Office. This historic structure is now home to the beautifully restored Sofitel Munich Bayerpost *****, combing avant-garde construction with French-inspired interior design.
