Malta is a tiny island nation with relatively few sandy beaches, meaning that the ones that do exist get very crowded. No problem here though, as the hotel has one of the most sought-after commodities in Malta: its own private sandy beach, perfect for relaxation and catching a tan, water sports and fun for the whole family – “Ohh I do like to be beside the seaside….”
Aside from the luxury of the private beach, the hotel is absolutely full of things to do. For anyone wanting to work on that perfect Baywatch body before heading out to the Beach club, or simply in need of working off some of the inevitable holiday excesses, there is an extensive Health and Fitness club. With a vast gym, squash and other sports courts and indoor swimming pool, it is perfect for sports lovers; while for those who simply prefer unwinding in a relaxing and luxurious ambiance, the sauna, steam rooms, Turkish baths and wide-ranging spa treatments are pure bliss! Meanwhile, the stunning outdoor panoramic pool, enjoyes absolutely breathtaking views over St George’s bay.
Much to my children’s dismay, Maltese cuisine does not consist of Maltesers three times a day. However, the InterContinental Malta does offer a variety of dining options, serving a superb taste of the island’s gastronomy alongside other typical Mediterranean fare and international dishes. The two stand-out dining experiences for me were: Paranga, with its terrace suspended just a metre above the clear blue sea water and serving an exquisite Sicilian menu, and Waterbiscuit, with its innovative, sophisticated Maltese cuisine in a relaxed ambiance, also with magnificent views over the bay from its roof terrace. The range of bars complements the selection of restaurants, and all offer live music and entertainment, there is never a dull night at the InterContinental!
The view from the balconies in the bedrooms inspires you to head out into the beautiful town and discover what St Julian’s has to offer. And the knowledgeable and helpful concierge team, who know the island like the back of their hand, are happy to help you plan out your trip and catch the best sights in Malta: from the ancient Megalithic temples (some of the oldest manmade structures on Earth!) to the dramatic natural rock formations, like the Dwerja arch; from the most picturesque fishing villages to the most atmospheric bars and restaurants of St Julian’s famous buzzing night scene.
