Istanbul currently has two airports, one on the European (western) side of the city and one on the Asian (eastern) side of the city:
- Istanbul Atatürk Airport (IST) is the main international airport of Istanbul, located around 24 km / 15 mi west of the city centre. This airport receives more regular direct flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe.
- Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW), is located around 35 km / 22 mi southeast of the city centre. It also receives a number of flights from cities across Europe, as well as many flights from outside of Europe.
- By taxi: You will find official taxis lined up outside the airport, it will take around 40-60 minutes to reach the city centre from Atatürk Airport and will likely cost around 55 Turkish lira. A taxi from Sabiha Gökçen Airport will likely take over an hour and cost around 170 Turkish lira.
- By bus: Another option from both airports is the Havataş airport shuttle to Taksim Square. It will take around 45 minutes from Atatürk Airport and cost around 11 Turkish lira, and around an hour and a half from Sabiha Gökçen Airport for around 30 Turkish lira.
