My mum is very sprightly for her age, and for years we have sought beautiful places to go walking together. We also share a love for all things French, especially fine wines and gourmet food. She loves travelling by train, and is a bit of a history buff, so for her birthday (I shan’t disclose which one!) my sister and I decided to take her on a women’s-only holiday to the Alsace region. Saying goodbye to London from St. Pancras, we stopped in Paris for brunch, hopped back on the train for a few hours of staring out at the rolling French countryside, to our destination. The hotel A la Cour d'Alsace **** is situated in central Obernai, and as we discovered, was a perfect haven for our rendezvous.
