It became clear as we approached the Mamaison Hotel Andrássy that it really couldn’t be in a better location. Situated on a quiet street in the exclusive Embassy neighbourhood, just off the historic Andrássy Avenue, we could enjoy a tranquil stay, while still being within easy reach of all the activities and attractions that Budapest has to offer.
The Mamaison Hotel Andrássy was designed and built in Bauhaus style by Alfréd Hajós in 1937, yet boasts contemporary décor and comforts. All of the rooms are spacious and modern, with chic, elegant furnishings in subtle tones and splashes of colour that bring notes of vibrancy. We especially loved our balcony, where we could sit and relax with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine as we gazed over the city.
We agreed to begin with our cultural fix, on the basis that by the time we’d ticked off our to-do list, we would probably be in need of some pampering and relaxation. Being in Budapest only for a few days, we were determined to see and do as much as possible in the short time we had. Fortunately, we found many museums and attractions to choose from nearby, and the historic city centre was just a few short metro stops away.
Our feet now aching, it was now time for the indulgent part of the holiday – the part that I had been most looking forward to! While the Mamaison Hotel Andrássy doesn’t have its own spa, guests are allowed to use the facilities of its sister property: Mamaison Residence Izabella. However, I’d made sure to leave plenty of time for our visit to the Széchenyi Thermal Baths, just 10 minutes’ walk from the hotel, they are the large medicinal baths in Europe.
By the time we returned to Mamaison Hotel Andrássy for our final evening, we were refreshed and rejuvenated. And as we sat on our balcony watching the sun set, we toasted our wonderful stay in Budapest.
