I’ve always been fascinated by Egyptian history and mesmerized by Giza’s colossal Pyramids, Luxor’s hieroglyph-lined Karnak Temple and the Valley of the Kings. My boyfriend and I finally made the decision to pack our bags and head to the land of the pharaohs. We landed in Hurghada, a beach resort town along Egypt’s Red Sea coast. Popular for scuba diving, there’s ample choice of restaurants and bars, and traditional souks in the old town of El Dahar. Cleopatra Luxury Makadi Bay Resort located between Hurghada and the port of Safaga, named after the Egyptian Queen, is a palace fit for modern day kings and queens. It was here that we were met with luxury, comfort and bespoke service.

  • Hurghada International Airport (HRG) is the nearest international airport, located 5 km / 3.1 mi southwest of El Dahar, the downtown of Hurghada.

    The airport is an important destination for flights mainly from Europe, receiving seasonal and year-round flights from a number of cities across Europe.

ADMINISTRATIVE FORMALITIES

  • All foreign visitors to Egypt, whether they need a visa or not, must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of arrival.

    Visitors from many countries, including the UK, all of the European Union, the US and Canada may apply for an e-Visa online in advance, apply here. Alternatively, it is possible to obtain a visa either at your local Egyptian consulate, or upon arrival in Egypt (however this may require spending time in a queue on arrival!).

    Visas allow a stay of up to 30 days per entry, and may be approved as either a single or multiple entry authorization depending on the needs of the applicant.
