The Quinta das Lágrimas **** is located halfway between Porto and Lisbon in the ancient capital of Coimbra, overlooking the Mondego River.

  • Considering the location of the hotel between Lisbon and Porto, arriving to either of these airports is a viable option. However, the Porto Airport is slightly closer only 132km from the hotel versus the 195km from Lisbon. Flights to Porto are listed below:

    - From the UK: Airlines flying direct from London are: British Airways, TAP Portugal, EasyJet and Ryanair. Flybe fly direct from Birmingham and indirect from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Belfast.

    - From Ireland: Ryanair operate direct flights from Dublin.

    - From Germany: TAP Portugal fly indirectly from Berlin and several other cities, whereas SATA fly direct from Munich and TAP Portugal & Ryanair fly direct from Dusseldorf and Frankfurt.

    - From the Netherlands: Flying from Amsterdam, TAP Portugal and Transavia operate direct flights, while Ryanair also fly direct from Eindhoven.

    - From Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland: TAP Portugal and Vueling airlines both fly indirectly from all four respective capital cities, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo and Helsinki.

    - From France: Transavia, Vueling, EasyJet and Ryanair operate direct flights from Paris. Ryanair also fly from Bordeaux and Marseille and Easyjet fly from Toulouse and Lyon.

HOW TO GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

  • - By Bus: From the Porto Airport you can take a direct bus to Coimbra operated by Ovnitur. The trip takes about an hours and 50 minutes and costs between 20€ and 30€ (around £14-£22).

    - By Train: From the airport, take the Line E of the metro to the Campanhã station. From there connect to the rail system and take an intercity train to Coimbra-B. The trip will take about 2 and a half hours and cost 14€ (around £10). Form the station in Coimbra, it is only a short 5 minute taxi ride to the hotel.

    - By Taxi: You can take a taxi from the Porto Airport but it is the most costly option as it will cost between 95€ and 110€ (around £68-£79).

    - By Car: Renting a car at the airport and driving to the hotel is cost efficient, rapid and hassle free option especially if traveling with children. From the airport, take the VIR motorway in the direction of Porto and merge onto A4 in the direction of Matosinhos Centro. Take exit Nº1 and merge onto A28 towards Porto/A1/Lisboa and finally merge onto the A1/IC23 towards Gaia/Lisboa. Continue to follow the A1 for 108 km. Take exit Nº13 to merge onto the E801/IP3 towards Viseu/Coimbra Norte and then take exit Nº8  onto the A31 and the IC2 towards Coimbra/Lisboa. Take the exit toward Lesboa/Condeixa and continue onto Av. da Guarda Inglesa. Continue straight onto Largo Rossio de Santa Clara and at the roundabout, take the 2nd exit onto Av. João das Regras/N1. Turn right onto Rua and continue onto Estr. das Lágrimas. You will see the hotel on the right.
