Citiz Hôtel ★★★★

An oasis of purple in the pinkest of cities

By Victoria Lomax, VeryChic correspondent
I do a lot of solo traveling for business. I’m used to solitude and sleeping alone, away from my family, but that doesn’t mean I like it. What it does mean is that, when I travel, I prefer to be in the centre of things, surrounded by noise and activity. Makes me feel less lonely. When I found out I would be travelling frequently to Toulouse for a new client, I decided to try the recently metamorphosed Citiz Hotel **** on the Place Wilson, just 5 minutes from the famous Place du Capitole in what they call the ‘hyper’ city centre.

The Citiz Hotel **** is located in the heart of Toulouse, just next to Place Wilson and only 5 minutes’ walk from the famous Place du Capitole.

BY PLANE

  • Toulouse is served by the Toulouse-Blagnac Airport. It is around 10 km (6 mi) from the hotel (20 minutes by car).

    - From the UK: Direct flights from London are operated by British Airways and low-cost airline EasyJet. Easyjet also fly direct from Bristol. During summer months, other low-cost airlines fly from other cities, such as Jet2 from Manchester and Edinburgh or Flybe from Birmingham.

    - From Ireland: Flying from Dublin, you can find direct flights offered by Aer Lingus in all but the winter months.

    - From Germany: Lufthansa fly direct from Munich and Frankfurt while Air France and Germanwings fly from Hamburg. During the summer, Air France also fly direct from Berlin.

    - From the Netherlands: Air France fly direct from Amsterdam all year round, but costs are high and flights are not regular; during the summer, Vueling offer indirect flights for generally lower prices.

    - From Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland: Unfortunately there are no direct flights from any of these countries, nor any immediately obvious indirect routes. Toulouse can be reached by booking with a combination of low-cost airlines, with a stop-over for example in Paris.

    - From France: Air France and Easyjet provide direct flights from Paris; and between Air France, Easyjet and Hop!, flights are available from cities like Lille, Lyon, Nice, Marseille and Strasbourg.

From Toulouse-Blagnac Airport to the hotel

  • - By Bus: The Navette Aéroport (Airport Shuttle) runs to Toulouse Matabiau station in the city centre every 20 minutes, and stops four times along the way; get off at Jean Jaurès which is just across the road from the hotel. The journey takes between 20 and 45 minutes (depending on traffic) and the ticket costs € 5.

    - By taxi: Taxis are found on the ground floor of the terminal building, nearby to the arrivals area. If arriving during the early morning, it may be best to pre-book a taxi service. The cost to the city centre is approximately 22 € (or approximately 25 € at night, early morning, Sundays or public holidays). Taxis work on a meter basis rather than a set rate, so it’s recommended to discuss the average price of the journey with the driver before leaving.

BY TRAIN

  • Toulouse-Matabiau is the main train station in Toulouse and is located around 10 minutes on foot from the hotel. It is served by France's regular and TGV services. It is therefore possible to reach Toulouse from London and other cities in mainland Europe by high-speed train with companies such as TGV, Eurostar and Thalys.

  • Local tourist taxes not included: 1.50€ (around £1.10) a night, per person (from the age of 12)
  • Baby cot (ages 0-2) available at no extra cost on request and with confirmation
  • No extra child or adult beds are available
