As soon as I arrived at La Casa Païral I was charmed by the historical feel of the building and the warm, welcoming service from the staff. Situated in the heart of Collioure, the hotel is nevertheless quiet and tranquil, offering a real haven of peace. I felt immediately at ease, and the lush green surroundings made for lovely fresh air. I could hear the soft bubbling of the fountain on the patio against a background of birdsong, which made the atmosphere even more bucolic.
I must have been tired from my journey, because I decided to have a nap as soon as I was shown to my room. Very spacious, the interior design perfectly combines tradition and modernity, with a great emphasis on comfort. The muted tones are soothing, as is the plentiful natural light. The decoration is well executed and relaxing, just like the bathroom that I was sure to enjoy throughout my stay. I also had a balcony, with wrought iron railings, with a lovely view of the flowery hotel gardens.
Refreshed after my nap, I woke ready to discover Collioure. Nestled between the calm Mediterranean and the rocky mountains of the Pyrenees, this Catalonian treasure exudes tranquillity and authenticity. I wandered along the narrow, flowery streets, bathed in the light of the Catalonian sun. The warm, bright colours contrast with the pale blue of the sea and sky. It is the perfect place for lazy living and meditation, far removed from everyday stress. Matisse, Picasso, Duffy and Chagall were all seduced by the authentic charm and found great inspiration for their paintings here. Taken in by the beauty of the harbour, I paused to watch the colourful fishing boats floating on the bay. Directly north of the harbour, you will find the Notre Dame des Anges church, built on the foundations of a medieval lighthouse. A wonderful sight.
After my walk, I stopped at a little restaurant where I decided to taste the Collioure speciality: anchovies. They served them on slices of toasted bread, accompanied by red peppers marinated in garlic and olive oil. And of course, I also tried the famous sweet wine from Banyuls. Delicious! I finished the meal with a gorgeous Croquant de Collioure: a cake decorated with almonds or chocolate drops and a gourmet local speciality.
The following morning, after a restful night, my gastronomic adventures continued with the breakfast at La Casa Païral. Fresh sun-kissed fruit and an irresistible range of delicious local products. A lovely moment that perfectly sums up my stay in Collioure: charming, tranquil and authentic. Just lovely.
