Though it's been said, “Paris is always a good idea,” - that's only true most of the time. I suggested to a friend that we went to the capital but she brushed off my proposition saying, “let's go somewhere in Normandy - eat good cheese, drink good wine and finally relax”; this was music to my ears. We found Le Forges Hotel, just an hour and a half from Paris, but a whole world away. With modern spa facilities, a wide range resort activities, and 27 acres of parkland it was exactly what the doctor ordered!

  • Dieppe is a fifty-minute drive away, and the closest beach town to Paris, making it a vibrant place. The beach is lovely, with cliffs taking over from the town's buildings and trailing into the distance. It’s famous for its failed Canadian landing in WW2 and there's a little museum that will happily tell you all about it.

  • Rouen is just a forty-minute drive away with its famously beautiful cathedral and its part in the trial and death of Joan of Arc. It's a medieval beauty, is the perfect size to walk around, and has some fantastic places to eat, such as La Petite Auberge.
  • Lyons-la-Forêt has maintained its architecture since the 17th century. Its castle was constructed by the English King Henry I in the 12th century and the pretty town, nestled in the wood, has a plethora of interesting historical buildings and sights.
  • The Nature Reserve of the Côte Sainte-Hélène. A sublime reserve that offers an exceptional panorama from its summit.

    Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly receive flights from most capitals and major cities across Europe. Meanwhile, low-cost airlines (notably Ryanair), operate flights to Paris Beauvais from many cities across Europe.

BY TRAIN

  • Most international trains arrive at either Paris Gare du Nord or Paris de l’Est.
    From the UK is it possible to book via Eurostar, otherwise Thalys or TGV operate from other neighbouring counties and elsewhere in France.

    The closest train station is Serqueux, around 1.8 km from the hotel, around a 5-minute drive.
    Trains leave from Paris Gare du Nord, with a connection in Amiens or Rouen. The journey will take around 2 hours and will cost around 30€.
