Once a humble fishing town that caught the eye of a certain Portuguese royal, Cascais has since blossomed into a sophisticated and upscale retreat, sandwiched perfectly between Lisbon and the rather stunning Atlantic coast. It was here that I found the Sheraton Cascais Resort in all its splendour; a perfectly placed escape from the hustle and bustle of the city life. BY PLANE

  • Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), or simply "Lisbon Airport", sits just north of Lisbon city centre, around 37km / 23mi / 35 minutes' drive east of the hotel in Cascais. It is a well-served international airport and the main hub for TAP Portugal. The airport receives regular flights from most capitals and many other major cities in Europe, including from the UK.

    From the airport to the hotel:
    • By taxi: located outside the terminals, not all Lisbon taxis look the same; most are cream-coloured but some older ones are painted black and mint green.
    • By car: major car rental companies are readily available at the airport, although we recommend booking your car in advance. The hotel offers free indoor parking.
