Situated at the heart of the Catalan Pyrenees Natural Park on a high plateau sits the area of Bolquère and the charming village of Font-Romeu. Set at 1800 metres above sea level it’s filled with Romanesque style churches and pretty chalets and is surrounded by pine forests and soaring snow-capped peaks. Known for its excellent ski, sporting facilities and pure air, it’s a place used for Olympic training, health cures and scientific research. Here just 10km from the Spanish border, hidden away from the busy resort you’ll find a range of luxury cottages - Les Chalets Secrets.

Concealed away among the snowy peaks and pines sits Les Chalets Secrets, like a small hamlet or clandestine village comprising a range of renovated Alpine barns and quaint wooden cottages. As soon as you enter the reception area filled with natural stone and wood, sink-down comfy sofas and fury white rugs, you’ll have high expectations of the inside of your chalet.

Luckily they don’t disappoint - 22 beautifully renovated barns and cottages renovated from centuries-old granaries to give an authentic Alpine experience. Barns can accommodate up to eight guests and command spectacular views over the peaks, while the chalets are intimate and elegant and named after the stars. Sitting at 1650 meters you’ve truly reached ethereal heights above the stratosphere when you enter your chalet with names such as Ankara and Nashira. Inside your cosy wooden cocoon you’ll see that everything has been designed with the utmost care and detail, from the furry down sofas to the polished wood surfaces and soft warm lighting.
In the sleek bathrooms and sophisticated kitchens you’ll find grey Italian stone and black granite from Zimbabwe. Cupboards are packed with every piece of equipment you could possibly need. There’s even a fondue set, which will definitely come in handy for romantic candlelit dinners in your elegant lounge area. A basket of fresh mountain produce sits on the table ready to welcome you to your new abode.

Best of all are the beds, hidden away in cosy alcoves, they offer stunning views of the snow-white mountainous landscapes and your own private terraces. It’s so easy to feel so incredibly snug here, that you’ll worry that you’ll want to spend all your time inside by the log fire wrapped in fur, admiring the snow from the warmth of the inside rather than out in it getting wet and soggy.

One thing that you’ll definitely want to get out of bed for though is the spa chalet, featuring a natural wood sauna, a stone hammam inlaid with vaulted ceiling lights and an outdoor Jacuzzi. Look out at the soaring mountain views and feel the warm bubbles massage your skin. Take a deep breath - if this doesn’t put you fully in holiday mode, nothing will.

Another thing that will entice you out of bed are the fresh breakfasts, which can be enjoyed in the stylish dining room of the spa chalet or outside on the hamlet deck, wrapped in blankets to keep you warm.
But out in the clear cold of day, head out to enjoy the snow and the natural world at nearby Font-Romeu ski resort, known as ‘The Queen Resort of the French Pyrenees’. At an altitude of 1800m and boasting more than 3,000 hours of sunshine per year, it’s the perfect place for a range of Nordic activities from downhill skiing to cross country skiing snowshoeing trails, sledding routes and sharpening up your skills in the snow park. This is a snowy day that you’ll really enjoy.
Back at Les Chalets Secrets you’ll be glad of your homey chalets and warming spa facilities, before getting ready for a deliciously melty cheese fondue dinner in the comfort of your chalet or the elegant dining room. Visit the Bolquère Pyrenees 200 Tourist Office to find out what activities and events are on offer in the area. It’s always best to book here in advance if you want to try any of the winter or summer sports available.
Ride the canary yellow train, connecting the villages of Villefranche-de-Conflent and Latour-de-Carol to Bolquère Station, covering 63 km and reaching up to 1200 metres passing through the dramatic mountainous landscapes.
Keep your eyes open for wildlife, especially the wild deer that live in the area. A snowshoeing excursion is the ideal way to view them.

The closest airport to the hotel is Perpignan-Rivesaltes Airport (PGF). However, flights to this airport are limited and vary seasonally.

More frequent international flights are available to Toulouse, Girona or Barcelona.

Toulouse-Blagnac Airport (TLS) is located around 6.7 km (4.1 mi) west-northwest of Toulouse city centre. It is an international airport which is fairly well-served by flights from elsewhere in France along with a number of capitals cities and other large cities across Europe.

Girona–Costa Brava Airport (GRO) is located just south of Girona in Spain. Ryanair offer year-round & seasonal flights from many cities across Europe, while some other low-cost airlines also operate seasonal flights from certain destinations, such as Thomson Airways from the UK or Transavia from the Netherlands.

Barcelona-El Prat Airport (BCN) is located just south of Barcelona in Spain. It receives a large number of international flights from many capitals and major cities across Europe.

Alternatively, guests can arrive at Perpignan train station direct from Paris Gare du Lyon with SNCF. The train from Paris lasts around 5 hours and for guests travelling from London the entire journey will last around 8 hours.
