Le Metropolitan ★★★★★

Style and sophistication in the chic 16th.

By Siena Morrell, VeryChic correspondent
The Eiffel Tower is recognised the world over. First unveiled in 1889, Gustave Eiffel’s eponymous landmark soon became a permanent symbol of the French capital. It too, for me, has great personal significance: I moved to Paris aged 21 and never looked back, and no matter how many times I see it on my way to work or running along the Seine, I still get a little rush of excitement. What could be better, then, than a luxury hotel just minutes from the tower and the spectacular Trocadéro? The Le Metropolitan offers guests an opulent contemporary base from which to explore the city, presented perfectly in typical Parisian style.

  • My first job in Paris was on Rue du Lübeck, and we would frequent La Pâtisserie Cyril Lignac far too often. I dream about the praline brioche, and they’re still an indulgent treat every now and then.

  • Paris’s beautiful people shop at Colette. This intimidatingly stylish department store offers fashion, jewellery and cosmetics upstairs, while downstairs you can find a varied assortment of knick-knacks you never knew you needed, including a range of homewares.
  • Without doubt one of my favourite restaurants in Paris – a popular choice among Paris’s well-heeled – is Ralph’s, on Boulevard Saint Germain. Enjoy a casual meal with the fashion pack in the courtyard, or a smarter dinner in the gentleman’s club-style dining room. Smarter dress code.
    173, Boulevard Saint-Germain.
  • Whether you’re looking for stylish homewares, sustainable fashion, or just a kooky cadeau for friends at home, Merci has what you’re looking for. Enjoy a coffee in the used book café, and then wander around the amazing space: you’re sure to find something you never knew you needed.
    111, Boulevard Beaumarchais.
