Grand Hotel Imperiale ★★★★★

Italian sophistication on the Tuscan coast

By Esme Fox, VeryChic correspondent
Tuscany is that idyllic part of Italy where one imagines long lunches under the shade of an old olive tree and undulating hills, hiding charming idyllic villages. However, situated right on the coast, just north of Pisa and the Versilia Riviera, you’ll find a glitzy part of Tuscany, frequented by well-heeled locals and tourists alike. Forte dei Marmi has been a playground for the rich and famous since the 18th Century. This is where wealthy families from nearby Florence and the north of Italy would come to spend their summers. It has also played host to well-known figures from the world of art and literature, including author Aldous Huxley and sculptor Henry Moore, who had a studio here. Today its popularity has not waned and even fashion designer Giorgio Armani has a villa here. In this sophisticated Italian resort sits the plush five-star Grand Hotel Imperiale, just 200 metres from the sea and with stunning views of the pine covered Apuan Alps. With its luxurious facilities, star service and its own private beach, it’s the only place to consider.
