View all offersA holiday in Mauritius is always going to be somewhat special, but here at The Cardinal Exclusive Resort, it is nothing short of spectacular, as we have been rapidly discovering since arriving yesterday and being swept into the secluded, romantic embrace of this paradise retreat.
The quiet, sophisticated chic of the décor and bright, airy warmth of the ambiance impressed us instantly and once we were shown our quarters we were well and truly swept off our feet. Our 51 square metres of space has a white-washed, fresh-faced elegance that illuminates its wooden floors and plush furnishings, such as the vast king-size bed and living area with sofa. Our bathroom has divine complimentary products, dressing gowns, slippers, charming double sink and a bathtub large enough to squeeze us both in! But la piece de resistance is our very own balcony looking out onto that infinite, calm, azure sea.
It is that view and the hush of the ocean that awoke us this morning and had us bounding gleefully out of bed for a change, excited to explore more of our Mauritian utopia. We had ended the night before with an exquisite supper at the hotel restaurant, which uses fresh ingredients from the market to tantalise your taste-buds. This morning we were again seduced by a mouth-watering breakfast before heading straight out to explore the stunning beach of Trou aux Biches, considered one of the most beautiful on the island. After an exhilarating (and free!) kayaking adventure, we returned to the resort dazed by the sheer serenity and exotic magic of our spellbinding surroundings.
By this time the heat of the tropical sun had begun to make itself felt, so we dove into the satin sea before settling down for a midday siesta on a couple of deckchairs in the cool shade. I am dreamily running the dazzling imagery that has passed before my eyes in the last 24 hours before my closed lids when a gentle nudge rouses me. It is my love, carrying two frosty glasses of piña colada, just when I thought the moment couldn't get more perfect! A toast! To love, to us and to our very own Mauritian heaven!
